NAD+: A Molecular Brain Elixir?

Updated: Jan 31, 2022

NAD+, short for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is a naturally occurring coenzyme that serves many critical roles within all cells. Certain processes cause NAD+ levels to decline, such as aging, drinking alcohol, taking anti-depressants, and obesity. Studies have shown that NAD+ supplementation is impressive brain food.

NAD+ supplementation has been shown to slow cognitive decline by reducing inflammation and improving antioxidant effects in the brain. Specific studies looking at NAD+ supplementation in vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease demonstrate promise for disease prevention. Through the stimulation of certain molecular pathway and the inhibition of others, NAD+ supplementation helps to optimize cognitive functioning and prevent the buildup of toxins.
